Plugging the Hole in the Leaky Bucket

Homeownership rates in central Grand Rapids have been dropping since 1970, but the pace of that loss has increased dramatically during the last few years due to the foreclosure crisis.

Raising the level of homeownership in central Grand Rapids is like trying to fill a leaky bucket.

While some organizations provide pre-purchase support in order to add new homeowners to the bucket, Home Repair Services works exclusively at trying to “plug the hole” with post-purchase homeownership services that help prevent the loss of more homeowners.

Home Repair Services shares a concern for the level of homeownership with a number of other non-profit organizations.  Our unified efforts create an opportunity to increase homeownership by both adding new homeowners and slowing the loss of existing homeowners.
